1. Liver Detox Smoothie
- 1 cup cranberries
- 1 cup fresh or frozen mango
- ½ cucumber
- ½ cup kale or other greens
- 1-inch piece ginger root
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1 cup almond milk
- Optional: 1 tbsp chia seeds, hemp seeds or other superfoods
Cranberries are more than just something you pair with your Christmas dinner once a year. These tart little berries contain acids that can be used to help prevent and treat urinary tract infections. These little berries also work to help nourish and protect the cardiovascular system and the liver. These super berries also contain several compounds that help to protect your body against cancer cell formation. Remember to consume your cranberries in whole form, rather than in juice or supplemental form to get the most nutritional bang for your buck.
2. Intestinal Cleanse Smoothie
- 1 cup fresh or frozen blueberries
- 1 pear
- 3 celery ribs
- 1 cup lettuce
- 1-inch piece ginger root
- ½ cup – 1 cup water
- Optional: 1 tbsp chia seeds, hemp seeds or other superfoods
You’ll be keepin’ it clean with this smoothie that provides a powerful punch of fibre and other intestinal-loving nutrients. The chia seeds expand in liquid and blueberries also become gelatinous in the colon and help move things through with their high fibre content. The skin from the pear has similar effects and the ginger and celery are yet more powerful cleansers which also helps get things on their way (as I am sure you have noticed how fibrous celery is)!
3. Cleansing Cilantro Smoothie
- 2 ribs celery
- ½ cucumber
- 1 handful cilantro
- 1 banana
- ½ lime
- 1 cup coconut water or regular water
- Optional: 1 tbsp chia seeds
Cilantro is a heavy metal chelator, which means that it helps to pull heavy metals out of your body. It can also help to reduce LDL or “bad” cholesterol levels.
